Background:
The ghost car myth originated as someone was exploring Back O' Beyond, And was suddenly ran over by a car. Upon further inspection the vehicle had no person in it at all. Although it has been proven to be a glitch of the cars spawn point, However there is many tidbits of information that add skepticism of it really being "Just" a glitch.
There are two beater Glendales (Beater variants have broken windows, bent panels, and as some speculate chainsaw marks. A possible relation to Leatherface?) located in Back O' Beyond (Said to be placed there for when the player gets lost and needs a ride) And one spawns directly on top of a hill. If the player is on the base of the hill the Ghost Car will run the player over (And on low health will even kill the player)
One of the weirdest developments is the fact that a pedestrian (Often heard in Red County) Can be heard saying "My car move by itself when I go shopping" Is it a possibility the developers purposely made this glitch? Or was it coincidence?
A mod was developed in 2005 based on the myth where it modified the games files to turn the cars on and have them chase after you. (What the myth is originally thought to be) After seeing this on Youtube many Grand Theft Auto fans thought this was real footage and inspected the Ghost Cars for themselves. Upon discovery many of them were ran over by the Ghost Cars which eventually led to this being one of the most believed myths of the Grand Theft Auto series. It is even gone far enough to be considered a "Proven" myth.
There are other beater variants of vehicles (Mainly the Walton and Saddler) That are considered to be "Ghost Cars", Although there are very rare occurrences of these cars actually moving. The event of a car without anyone in it attacking a player can be a very paranormal thing to happen which makes sense for this to be a very popular myth.
